Vision Statement

School + Family + Community = Success For All

The staff at La Cañada Elementary School is committed to educating all students to become responsible, thinking, contributing members building a community for tomorrow.  For this to occur, students must become proficient in reading comprehension, communication, computation, reasoning, and problem solving.

These goals will be accomplished with high expectations for student acheivement, a safe and orderly learning environment, cooperative decision-making processes, and primary emphasis upon the importance of effective teaching-learning practices.

Curriculum and Programs

All textbooks and instructional materials at La Cañada are aligned with the California State Content Standards.

La Cañada receives funding for supplementary education programs.  The following resources and special programs are offered in addition to the base program:

  • Title One
  • Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Program
  • Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE)
  • Counseling
  • Three Special Education Classes
  • After school intervention programs for students "at risk" of not meeting grade level standards.

 

Enrollment and Community

La Cañada Elementary School is located in Lompoc, California.  Lompoc is located 150 miles northwest of Los Angeles in Santa Barbara County with a population of approximately 40,000 people.  Lompoc is a laregely rural, ethnically diverse community.  The city has a varied industrial and ecomonic base.  Agriculture, Vandenberg Air Force Base, and Lompoc Unified School District employ the majority of the population of Lompoc.  The moderate climate, historical points of interest, and agriculture support a strong tourism based economy as well.

La Cañada Elementary School serves approximately 700 students.  Our school population is comprised of 50% Hispanic, 35% White, 8% African American, 2% Filipino, and 2% American Indian.  Approximately 24% of the students at La Cañada are Limited English and 58% qualify for free and reduced lunch program.

School History

La Cañada Elementary School was built in 1963, and is one of ten elementary schools in the Lompoc Unified School District.  La Cañada has just finished going through an extensive moderization project.
